Can dogs be helpful in the classroom as a learning assistant? Some classrooms have lizards, fish, snakes, iguanas and bunnies, why not a dog? I understand younger students may not have the self control yet to not pull a dogs ears, or try to turn a dog into a horse etc. so maybe having a dog in classroom would work for 8-12 graders. Any thoughts out there in the internet world?

As a side note, I donated a bunny who was in a classroom for a year. (I sadly could no longer keep the bunny at my new home), though I would drop in and visit my ex-pet bunny. This bunny understood the bell schedule and would hop around when the students were calmed down and working at their assignments. But when that bell rang, that bunny was in a safe spot away from all those feet shuffling around. The downside to the bunny being in a classroom, was the baseboards damage. Other staff members did not look very kindly at the baseboards being chewed, which I can't say I blame them. Maybe bunnies are like a thermostat, to how well a group of well meaning kids and sit down to do their assignments? Can dogs be such a helper in the classroom?
